Poems

Joanna

she fixed her gaze
beyond my grasp
eyes lazed into liquidity
she saw what she had never known
her smile was not for me
or any earthly form
but for an ancient wisdom
to a timeless call
the hand went limp
no longer hers to hold
a sigh of elemental force
flew up to meet her host
she closed her eyes
i kissed her cheek
as milky fluids dribbled
from her mona lisa smile
her soul broke free
escaped from pain
while i grew wiser
through the darkening days
